Children in Low Income Families

Children in Low Income Families, number and percentage of resident children age under 16.

The data shows the number of children living in low-income families in receipt of Child Tax Credit whose reported income is less than 60 per cent of the median income, or in receipt of Income Support or Income-Based Jobseekers Allowance.

The percentage of children in poverty shows the number (above) divided by the total number of children in the area (based on Child Benefit data).

Some data limitations: Numbers are all based on tax and benefits data so might not match resident population figures. Numbers may also be rounded with some suppressed at low levels, so they might not total up precisely. Policy changes including Universal Credit may affect the figures.

Data source: HM Revenue and Customs (Personal Tax Credits: Child poverty statistics; Children in Low Income Families local measure). The data shows an August snapshot in each Calendar year. Updates are according to government statistics releases. For further information about this data, please see the source link.
